Fierce Fridays – Week Two

Welcome to another edition of Fierce Fridays on the blog! I got some really great feedback from last Friday’s post and I’m super excited that a lot of people are really enjoying this new series.

• Shopping •

  • In need of a new outfit? Torrid is currently offering an extra 50% off clearance items both in-store and online. You can also start using your Haute Cash codes this weekend, although clearance items are excluded from the Haute Cash promos. (If you don’t have a Haute Cash code, there’s tons floating around the internet, so get to Googling!)
  • If you’re in a shopping mood this weekend, but don’t want to leave the comfort of your bedroom, check out the epic sale Modcloth is having! You can get up to 70% off on hundreds of items on their website. If you haven’t tried anything from Modcloth yet, now’s your chance!
  • Dying for a new pair of shoes to complete your outfit? You’re in luck, because Payless ShoeSource has got you covered! Take an extra 20% off everything in-store or online by using promo code 251510311 at checkout. The offer is valid until 1/18, so hurry!
  • Heading out to the mall this weekend? Stop by Forever 21 before 1/18 to take advantage of their buy one, get one free sale items promo. It’s in-store only and valid on select items, but who doesn’t love a great bogo sale?

• Staying In •

  • Check out this awesome recipe for sesame noodles from Gimme Some Oven, especially if you’ve been craving Chinese takeout lately, like I have. These noodles can be made in 15 minutes and served either hot or cold, depending on how you like it. (Personally, I love them both ways, but there’s something AMAZING about eating cold sesame noodles that really makes me happy for some reason.)
  • I don’t know about you guys, but I’m so in love with all the GlamGlow masks out there right now. What I’m not in love with is how much it costs for each one and my bank account definitely isn’t happy with me for my GlamGlow love affair either. Luckily for me, The Twisted Horn posted this fantastic DIY GlamGlow Face Mask recipe and I can’t wait to try it out!
  • The death of Alan Rickman this week really hit me hard and I can’t think of any better way to honor him (without flying all the way to London and leaving flowers at Platform 9 3/4 at King’s Cross Station, that is) than spending this weekend marathoning his movies. Other than the Harry Potter film series, another must-watch Alan Rickman movie is 1999’s Sense and Sensibility. His portrayal of Colonel Brandon is the one that made me fall in love with him as an actor. So if you’re looking for something to watch this weekend, check that one out. (Amazon video | YouTube)

• City Living •

  • Saturday morning (1/16) is the grand opening of the newest location of Stan’s Donuts & Coffee in the South Loop. Located at 26 E. Roosevelt Road, the first 100 people in line at the bakery on Saturday morning will receive an envelope containing prizes from free coffee/gelato to free doughnuts for life!
  • Check out the Mixology 101 class at Arami in West Town for a demonstration on how to make two cocktails which you can pair easily with appetizers. Stay for dinner after the class and get a complementary dessert. The class costs $40, begins at 4pm on Saturday and reservations are required.
  • If you’re getting married any time soon, be sure to check out the Bridal Expo this weekend at the Chicago Mariott O’Hare from 11:30am-4pm on Sunday. Over 60 wedding vendors offering catering, flowers, photography and more will be in attendance. Tickets cost $10-15.

Have a great weekend everyone and be sure to stay warm!
