Lush Loves: City Color Cosmetics

I’ve been on this major makeup-buying spree lately, thanks to this fabulous makeup group on Facebook. In the span of about two weeks, I’ve brought home two different bottles of foundation to try out, enough eye shadow pots and palettes to last me an eternity, and about a dozen colors of NYX’s soft matte lip cream that I’m currently obsessed with. While I’m as happy as a clam with all my gorgeous new goodies to play with, my bank account isn’t too pleased with me right now.

Whoever said money can’t buy happiness obviously hasn’t seen how I react when a new Morphe palette falls into my hands! That being said, being on a budget doesn’t have to limit your makeup choices anymore, especially when it comes to quality. More and more products at drugstore price-points end up being better quality than their prestige brand counterparts, giving us better bang for the buck!

It was from this that another new series on The City Lush was born. Welcome to Lush Loves, a new monthly series featuring my favorite high-quality, budget-friendly fashion and beauty products. It’s the best of both worlds!

Being on a budget doesn’t have to limit your choices…

For this inaugural post of Lush Loves, I want to feature two of my long-time favorite discount store finds: City Color’s Be Matte Blush and Glowing Complexion Illuminating Cream.

The Be Matte Blush comes in 8 different colors, from the vibrant red of ‘Blood Orange’ to the deep mauve of ‘Blackberry’. The formula of the blush is a super soft and silky texture, long-lasting, and completely matte. It’s also really easy to blend and ridiculously pigmented for the price. A little definitely goes a long way when it comes to this blush. I personally think it’s more pigmented and has better texture than some of the higher-end blushes, which is pretty incredible considering this blush only costs $5.

Out of the 8 colors, the shades I find myself using most often are Guava, Papaya and Blackberry. Guava looks like a deep watermelon pink, perfect for when you want a more dramatic blush for a night out. Papaya is more of a pinky-brown dusty rose color and is great for a subtle, everyday look. Blackberry, on the other hand, is more of a light purple/mauve blush with a hint of sparkle in it.

City Color’s Glowing Complexion Illuminating Cream is one of my daily go-to products. Similar to Sephora’s Radiant Luminizing Drops and reminiscent of Becca’s Opal skin perfector, this is a lightweight cream luminizer that can be worn alone or underneath your favorite powder highlighter. Blend it all over your face if you want a radiant complexion or dab a little of the cream on your cheekbones, the bridge of your nose and your browbone for a dewy glow that’ll make everyone jealous. For $7, you get a full ounce of product, which will last you a while since a little goes a long way.
